Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu at the University of Kansas

Expanding for the Future

Since 1884, the Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu has thrived at The University of Kansas. The current fraternity house, built by a former Kansas Governor in 1907, has been home to the Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu since 1922.

When the Chapter approached KSQ to expand the house in 2022 to renovate and expand the facility, the design team focused on enhancing the functionality of the house while preserving the character and architectural charm that define its identity. Through a collaborative planning process with chapter leadership, the team explored strategies to improve the daily living experience for members while respecting the historic structure.

The completed renovation and expansion transformed key gathering and circulation spaces throughout the home. Improvements included an expanded dining room, additional study areas, enhanced connectivity between rooms, and a reimagined porch that creates a stronger sense of arrival and campus presence. Accessibility upgrades were also integrated into the design, ensuring the historic home better serves current and future generations of students.
